| After The Cast |
| April 25, 2005 |
| 4 months after the original cast went on Molly is
cast free! And her hip looks great. It takes a couple
weeks for her to get her bodily functions like sitting
unassisted back, and her legs automatically are in
the open position even when the brace is off. |
 |
|
| For the next several months she will need to wear
a Rhino brace. This is a brace constructed of foam
and Velcro to keep her legs in that open, frog like
position. Insert 2 pictures of brace (brace front & Brace
back). She wears it for several hours a day at first
and the amount of time in the brace gradually decreases
until she is only sleeping in it for naps and nighttime
and then just for Nighttime sleep only (or 8 hours
a day). Molly wore it for several months until she
was about 18 months when she mastered removing it all
by herself. I think the doctor would have preferred
her to wear it closer to 2 years of age. |

| She adopted a leap like crawl, where she hopped a
bit instead of the “traditional” hands
and knees poster. This started about 3 weeks after
the cast came off and lasted until she walked. She
began cruising furniture about 17 months, and can easily
get up and down the stairs. She can even use the potty
even before she can walk. |

August 2005
At 18 months old Molly starts walking with the assistance
of others and walking toys, and is still doing the hopping
crawl to get around. |

September 5, 2005
At 19 months old Molly is officially
a walker, walking more than crawling that is. |

| Molly will celebrate her 2 nd birthday next month and is
doing great! Running everywhere and keeping up just fine
with her older siblings. Her vocabulary is amazing and we
attribute this to 4 months of sitting in observation. |
| Wow what a run…can hardly believe it was a year
ago that she was diagnosed. We are so glad that it is all
in the past but our memories. Luckily Molly won’t remember
it at all, except for the stories and the photos and this
web site of course. |
| The response from the people who have found this site has
been wonderful. If we can help in any way with suggestions
or comfort please don’t hesitate to email us for a
quick response. We’ve love sharing Molly’s story
and firmly believe that the more prepared you are the easier
the experience will be for you and your child. This is our
goal, and we hope that we have helped those that have contacted
us. |
